How this tool works

The state result reads the same data as our state guides: the net metering or export-credit status and any state incentives we have recorded, with the date the state was last checked. We do not guess. If we have not recorded an incentive, the result says so. See how the payback changes without the federal credit and our net metering guide.

Not tax or legal advice. Confirm eligibility with a qualified professional.

Frequently asked questions

Is there still a federal tax credit for solar panels?

Not for homeowners who buy their own system. The IRS says the Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) is not allowed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025. A company that owns a leased or PPA system may claim a business credit, which does not go to the homeowner directly.

Are there state incentives for solar?

Some. This tool shows the state incentives we have recorded and checked, and says plainly when we have not recorded one. Utilities and state energy offices also run programs that change often.

Does this tell me if I qualify?

No. It shows what rules and programs exist. Eligibility depends on your income, location, utility, and when the work is finished. Confirm with a tax professional and the program administrator.
