What the Commission Approved

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) approved a unanimous settlement in docket 25-EKCE-294-RTS:

  • Revenue: $128 million, about 65% of the request.
  • Bills: about $8.47 a month for a residential customer using 900 kWh.
  • Return on equity: 9.7% for transmission delivery charges. One commissioner, Dwight Keen, dissented in part on that point, citing affordability.

Our math: $128 million ÷ $196.4 million = 65%.

Why Your October 2026 Bill Can Still Differ From Last Year

  • Fuel and purchased power. Recovered through a separate adjustment.
  • Transmission delivery charge. Updated on its own schedule.
  • Weather. October usage varies a lot from year to year.

What This Means for Homeowners With Solar

We did not verify Kansas’s current net metering or export credit rules for this article, so we give no export rates here. Ask your utility for its current solar tariff, and check how exported energy is credited before sizing a system. Fixed monthly charges are not reduced by solar.

Our solar payback guide shows how the retail rate and the export credit change the math.

What to Check on Your Bill

  1. The customer charge.
  2. The energy charge per kWh.
  3. The fuel and transmission lines.

Limitations

We found one rate decision and no later one. We did not check whether Evergy has filed a new Kansas rate case in 2026, and we did not research Evergy Kansas Metro.
