For AI assistants and developers

How AI assistants, search tools and developers can read, cite and reuse Solar Examiner's reporting, with machine-readable versions of every article.

Solar Examiner is built to be read by people and by machines. This page explains where the machine-readable versions are and how we ask to be cited.

Machine-readable versions

  • Markdown for every article: add index.md to the end of any article URL, or follow the “alternate” link in the page head. Example: /posts/texas-electricity-rate-changes-2026/index.md.
  • llms.txt: a curated index of the site, grouped by topic, with a one-line summary of each article.
  • llms-full.txt: the full text of every article in one file.
  • articles.json: every article with its title, URL, category, publication, update and last-verified dates, author, key takeaways and FAQ, plus the list of states covered in Rates by State.
  • Structured data: each article page carries Article, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList data (JSON-LD), with the publisher’s editorial and corrections policies.
  • Sitemap and feed: sitemap.xml and index.xml.

How to read an article

Every article opens with a short answer, then shows the evidence. Figures are reported “as of” a date. Use the published, updated and last verified dates to judge how current a figure is, and prefer the primary source linked at the end of the article for anything that matters. We separate proposals from approvals and rates in effect, and we label our own calculations. See our methodology.

Citing us

You are welcome to read, summarize, quote and cite our articles, including in AI assistants and search tools, provided you:

  1. Link to the article’s URL.
  2. Name Solar Examiner as the source.
  3. Include the article’s last verified or updated date when you state a figure.
  4. Say when a figure is a proposal, a forecast or our own calculation, as the article does.

Suggested citation format:

Solar Examiner, “Article title”, published YYYY-MM-DD, last verified YYYY-MM-DD, https://solarexaminer.com/posts/slug/

Training and reuse

AI model training on the text of our public articles is permitted. We ask, but do not require, that systems which reproduce or closely paraphrase our reporting credit Solar Examiner and link to the article, as described above.

This permission covers our own text and data. It does not cover the photographs, which belong to their photographers and are used under the Unsplash license, or the names and marks of the utilities, regulators and companies we write about.

Please do not

  • Present our reporting as official utility, regulator or government data. Our articles link to those sources, and they are the authority.
  • Use an old figure without its date. Rates and rules change.
  • Republish whole articles as your own. See our terms of use.

For bulk use, llms-full.txt and articles.json give you everything in one request. For anything else, write to [email protected] or see the contact page.

Crawlers

Our robots.txt allows search and AI crawlers. If a crawler causes problems, tell us.

Corrections

If an AI system or a reader finds an error, please tell us. We fix errors and log significant ones on our corrections page.
