# Editorial policy

These are the standards we hold our reporting to.

## Independence

Our reporting decisions are ours. Sponsored or affiliate content, if any, is labeled as such (see below), and it is kept distinct from our reporting.

## Sourcing

- We use primary sources wherever we can and link to them.
- We say when a claim comes from a company's own announcement or from a single source.
- We distinguish proposals, approvals and rates in effect.
- We do not present estimates, projections or our own calculations as official figures.

## Dating and updates

Articles show their publication date and, when changed, an updated date. Where we have checked the facts, we show a **last verified** date. When facts change in a way that matters, we update the article and say so.

## Corrections

We correct errors when we find them or when readers point them out. See [corrections](/corrections/).

## Sponsored content and affiliate links

Content that is paid for, sponsored, or contains affiliate links is clearly labeled as such at the top of the article, before the reader reaches the content. Details are in our [affiliate disclosure](/affiliate-disclosure/).

## Images

Photographs on this site come from Unsplash and are credited to their photographers under each image. They illustrate the subject in general terms and are not pictures of the specific utilities, companies or people named in an article, unless the caption says so.
